Now: I live in New York City, working as an urban planner and economic development consultant, with a North America portfolio covering projects in over 20 cities. I started my professional career in the public sector, where I managed funding for New York City’s urban park system. In my spare time, I cook experimentally, write about cities, and make some music.
Background: I grew up in China before coming to the United States. I first went to Syracuse University to study architecture and building technology, after which I pursued Master’s degrees at Harvard University and the London School of Economics, graduating with top awards in all three schools. When I read my first book on economics as a young architecture student, it inspired me to look at cities in a perspective that is more about social relationships. Since then, my interest in the public realm has been deepened, motivating me to shift my focus from architecture to urban planning, economic development, and social science.
